CASTLE will use the following criteria (in order of priority) to determine a family's eligibility and placement into the program:

  • Household income (at or below 75% of State Median Income (SMI) level- For a family of 4, the income threshold is $109,389)

  • Date of application submission

  • If child has siblings currently enrolled at CASTLE (in-house family)

  • Residency (preference given to Colchester residents, but not required)

  • Age of child (preference given to 4-year olds who will be entering Kindergarten the following year)​

Early Start CT

(previously "School Readiness")

There are a limited number of spots in CASTLE's School Day Pre-School program reserved for families who qualify for Early Start CT: a state-funded early care and education program launched by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood.

CASTLE's Early Start CT program is seeking:

  • Children who are not enrolled in a preschool program;

  • Children who live in Connecticut;

  • Families who want a 5-day a week program (see classroom information below);

  • Families who may find it difficult to pay for preschool.​

Classroom Information- School Day Pre-School

  • Monday - Friday

  • 9am - 3pm (No extended AM or PM Care)

  • 1st day of school: Thursday, August 27, 2026 - June 2027

  • Classroom follows the Colchester Public School calendar regarding shortened days, no school days, weather-related delays/early dismissals/closings and vacation weeks.
